KEEGAN KORF JOINS OMAHA BY DESIGN AS OMAHA METRO’S FIRST SMART CITIES COORDINATOR

Omaha, NE – October 2, 2019 – Keegan Korf comes to Omaha by Design and the Metro Smart Cities initiative with a passion for education, advocacy, and inclusion. Korf’s background is in both communications and education. She has served in the past as a high school English teacher, and most recently an instructional technologist for the Omaha Public Schools. Focused on digital citizenship and privacy, Korf’s background in instructional technology and district leadership contributed to system-wide shifts in technology use across the school district and the state of Nebraska.

Korf is a Nebraska native and has lived the majority of her life in the Omaha-metro community. She is a proud graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s School of Communications, having later earned a Master of Arts degree from College of Saint Mary, and finally a Master of Education degree in Teacher Leadership and Learning from Midland University. Korf is a graduate of Leadership Omaha Class 40, a member of the Board of Trustees for the Omaha Public Library, and the Vice President of the Board of Directors for Felius Cat Café, Omaha’s first and only non-profit cat café and adoption facility.

“Omaha is my favorite city in the world and I am proud to live and work here,” said Korf. “Having worked in both education and technology over the last eight years, I’ve seen some of the most amazing things that Omaha has to offer, but I’ve also seen the inequity of transportation resources and services available to the people of our community. We can use technology as a powerful tool for good in shaping the future of our city in to one of innovation and accessibility for all. I am honored to serve as our community’s first Smart Cities Coordinator and to help make our region an even greater place for all.”

The Metro Smart Cities initiative is guided by an Advisory Committee co-chaired by Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert and Derek Leathers, CEO of Werner Enterprises. The committee includes elected leaders and those working in development, transportation, technology, and philanthropy. The effort drives pilot projects around technology and transportation with intentions of addressing safe access to employment, education, and healthcare, transportation awareness and engagement, seamless mobility, and revitalization of the urban core. This work comes just in time for continued conversations around safe and accessible transportation, mobility, and infrastructure.
